Pictured above is a specialized Tuckerbilt concrete delivery truck being utilized to transport and pour Cor-Tuf UHPC in large, pre-tensioned piling forms. In attendance are representatives from the Federal Highway Association, the Florida Dept. of Transportation, Chryso Chemical Group, Dura-Stress Inc., and the Precast Concrete Institute.
Unlike other UHPC products, Cor-Tuf can be mass-produced using our fully automated, double-shaft mixing facility. This twin-shaft setup allows for high stirring efficiency, increased consistency, and better mixing performance overall.
The Cor-Tuf team prepares to mix a batch of UHPC, originally developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Testing shows that UHPC has ten times the compressive strength of traditional concrete and a longevity of more than 75 years. Our team of experts is available to assist with any questions on the Cor-Tuf product.
Drop tests are used to demonstrate the durability of UHPC concrete. In our first drop test, a 16-pound bowling ball was dropped from 22.5 feet directly onto Cor-Tuf UHPC, cracking the bowling ball wide open. Cor-Tuf UHPC came out unscathed.
In our second drop test, a 67.5-pound cement block was dropped 22.5 feet onto Cor-Tuf UHPC. The cement block shattered on impact, while the Cor-Tuf slab remained intact.
As DOTs across the country implement accelerated bridge construction, precast bridge panels are becoming the norm. Filling panels with Cor-Tuf ensures that connections are stronger and more durable. This added strength reduces future maintenance needs, increases longevity, and amplifies cost savings by decreasing the amount of downtime for bridges that are out of commission.
Implementing Cor-Tuf in bridge installation projects marks a landmark commitment from the Virginia Department of Transportation, ensuring that bridges retain their high compressive strength and impact resistance for more than 75 years.
Many U.S. state governments strongly recommend that UHPC be used in all future bridge construction and repair projects. As a material provider, our service package revolves around mixing, delivering, and providing quality control for the on-site installation crew. Here, the team mixes Cor-Tuf in preparation for extremely durable field-cast connections for prefabricated bridge elements.
Despite industry misconceptions, Cor-Tuf UHPC can be pumped and poured just like conventional concrete—but with the added benefits of longer life, greater strength, and increased versatility. This makes it easy for any construction crew to use UHPC without bringing additional equipment onsite.
Ultra-High Performance Concrete is the ideal material to repair the more than 54,000 structurally deficient bridges in the US. Our rigorous testing, in partnership with CTL labs, demonstrates that Cor-Tuf UHPC is the best choice for rebuilding and reinforcing American infrastructure.
